These terms are often searched together, but they describe two different things.
Maryland alcohol license for a business
A liquor license generally authorizes a qualified establishment to sell or serve alcoholic beverages. Maryland licensing is administered locally, and the process, license classes, fees and application requirements can differ by county and business type.
If you are opening a restaurant, bar or liquor store, contact the relevant county or city alcoholic beverage licensing authority before applying.
TIPS certification for alcohol workers
TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) teaches responsible alcohol service practices, including checking identification, recognizing intoxication and responding to challenging situations.
TIPS training does not itself grant a Maryland business alcohol license. Ask your employer or local licensing authority which training is accepted for your role.
