Utah Alcohol Certification Requirements for On-Premise and Off-Premise Alcohol Sales
The Utah On-Premise Alcohol Seller Server Training and the Utah E.A.S.Y. Off-Premise Certification are online courses that are mandated in Utah and required by the Utah Division of Substance Abuse & Mental Health for all individuals who sell and serve alcoholic beverages.
On-premises training is intended for servers and sellers of alcoholic beverages in restaurants, bars, clubs, hotels, breweries, and events. The training shall be within 30 days of their employment and again every 3 years.
The Utah E.A.S.Y. off-premises certification applies to those who work at gas stations, convenience stores, grocery stores, and liquor shops. It is mandatory for staff members selling or directly participating in the sale of beer. Training must be completed within 30 days of hire and every 5 years from the date of that training.

Problem drinkers—the course will provide a guideline to spotting regular drinkers and how to refrain them from further service.
Utah alcohol laws—understand Utah laws regarding the sale and service of alcoholic beverages.
Problem customers—learn how to tackle and deal with customers who are difficult to handle.
Transporting customers home—know the responsibility of the seller/server to getting customers home safely
Is this course "Sips and Tips Certification Utah" or "TIPS"?
'TIPS' is a trademark health service that provides alcohol training courses. The terms are sometimes taken as slang terms, which are referred to by Utah law as alcohol training or educational seminars. The state of Utah has also authorized other online providers to deliver alcohol seller-server training. Upon completion, you will receive a Utah permit, which is valid for 3 years and is equivalent to SIPS and TIPS certification in Utah.
Persons Required to Complete this Course:
The Utah Code, 62A-15-401, requires the following persons to complete this course:
- A person serving or selling alcohol to customers
- A person involved in alcohol serving supervision
- Person holding a position as the manager or in charge of operations
- When Must Course Be Completed
It is mandatory that all the employees take this course within 30 days of starting to work.
Consequences of Failure to Complete Course
You will be put on suspension from your workplace for failing to obtain your Utah Permit or its equivalent in alcohol seller/server training within 30 days. Further, the municipal government in which your business is located can suspend the business license in case it has failed to live up to its requirement of maintaining trained staff.
